“When friends get together”
This coming Fall semester I will be teaching a course that is very familiar in College psychology circles. The course is called “The Psychology of Adjustment.” what an incredible time in the History of Humanity to speak of Adjustment!
As a clinical therapist much of what I deal with the the counseling session deals with stress, anxiety, depression, grieving, lose, martial conflict, the list of daily struggles are endless.
While what I speak of here in this blog is not the only reason deals with mental health concerns and discord, I will say that much of what I see in counseling sessions is people’s inability to deal with ( and here is your word) CHANGE!
Of course change is inevitable, but does CHANGE have to happen so frequently?!
Our tried and true coping skills throughout the ages seem to be less effective in helping us deal with CHANGE due to the rapid fire frequency that CHANGE is occurring.
What can we depend on that vis steadfast, consistent, and steady that while we are trying to cope with an ever changing world. Where can we find a soft place ton land that allows for a sanctuary of consistency that can be depended on inn a whirlwind rollercoaster world?
relationship with Jesus (Proverbs 18:24 there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother)
Relationships with others who have a relationship with Jesus ( 1 Peter 3:8- Finally, be like-minded (all of us having the same mind as Christ) be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble )
This Blog is about “When Friends get together” (Acts 2:1) We will lean into this scripture a lot. When the day of pentecost came, they (obedient believers) they were all TOGETHER in ONE place.
A. together denotes relationship with Christ and each other.
B. One place- yes they were in one physical location awaiting the promise of the Spirit. But lets expand this idea. ONE place spiritually speaking, that one place that we share as believers that desire to grow in Christ, That one place we share is the likemindedness of Christ. Like on the Day of Pentecost, I believe that God is pouring out his Spirit in magnificent manner. We want to be prepared for that outpouring: Lets be together spiritually being there for each other gathered in the mind of Christ.
I am reminded of an old song back 30-35 years ago from Micheal W. Smith “Friends” and a song by Jon Gibson “Friend in you”
I’m going to ask you to listen to these songs and ponder their meaning as we at Gr8terway Resources begin a blog journey of what it means when “friends get together.”

There is no better way to adjust to Change like friends that like Jesus stick closer than a brother.
God bless
